We are excited to open registration for the SPRING 2025 season of Newton Roller Hockey! We have programs available for girls and boys of varying ages and ability, from young children who need to learn how to skate to confident, highly skilled hockey players and everyone in between. We are a non-checking league and we play with a ball, rather than a puck. All our games are played at the Newton Roller Hockey rink at 15 South Park Dr. in Newton, NJ.
We offer three levels of youth hockey:
MITES: Primarily ages 5-8 as well as any older players who need to learn to skate. All new Mites players receive a helmet and stick to keep. This is a fun, relaxed environment that teaches kids how to skate, use a stick, etc.
JUNIOR: Primarily ages 8-12. Players must be able to safely skate, have a basic grasp of stickhandling, and understand the rules of the game (with our help) to play in this division. (Both younger and older players may occasionally be placed in this division based on their ability.)
SENIOR: Primarily ages 13 to 17. Players should be strong skaters capable of playing the game safely a much faster pace. (Older and younger players may occasionally be placed in this division based on their ability.)

GAMES for Junior and Senior divisions take place on Friday and Saturday evenings. (Mites do not play games.)
PRACTICES will be one evening per week TBA for Junior and Senior divisions. Mites will practice on Saturday mornings at 10 am.
EVALUATIONS: Most players will be required to attend a one-hour player evaluation on April 5 (weather-dependent). The purpose of the evaluation is simply to get a feel for your player’s skill level so we can match him or her up appropriately with other players. The following players must attend:
- ALL new-to-hockey players, regardless of age
- ALL players of any skill level who are ages 13 and under
EXCEPTION: Mites players are not required to attend
Evaluations will be held from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday, April 5, with specific times announced a week prior to the date.
EQUIPMENT: This is a non-checking league. Helmet with full face cage or shield, elbow pads, gloves, shinguards, and inline skates required. In-line hockey girdles and in-line hockey pants strongly recommended, but not required. Mouthguards recommended, but not required.
PLEASE NOTE If you have a special request regarding your preferred practice night or anything else, it must be stipulated at registration. We do our best to honor all special requests, but cannot make guarantees. Teams will be announced following evaluations.
DISCOUNTS: Sibling discount of $25 per additional child for each family with two or more players. The sibling code is SPRSIB25.
VOLUNTEERS If you are interested in coaching or serving on the board, please contact me to discuss. Coaches and board members receive free player registration.
CREDIT FROM FALL: if you opted to roll your child’s fall registration over to spring, please send Andrea an email or text to confirm that your child will be playing this spring so we can complete the registration process.
