Registration is now open for our FALL 2026 season of Newton Roller Hockey! All our games and practices are held at the Newton Roller Hockey rink at 15 South Park Dr. in Newton, NJ.

Newton Roller Hockey's Fall 2026 season will look different this year:

● The Mites/Mighty Mites division will run as usual on Saturday mornings at 10 am.

● We will offer a sized-down version of our typical fall youth season for players ages 6–12.

● We will not be holding a season for our Senior Division players, who are typically ages 13 and up.

FALL 2026 DIVISIONS

MITES: Primarily ages 4 to 8 as well as any older players who need to learn to skate. All new Mites players receive a helmet and stick to keep. Children under the age of 6 must remain in Mites or Mighty Mites until their 6th birthday, at which point, they can progress to the Junior Division if they're ready.

MIGHTY MITES: Primarily ages 6 to 10, but may include younger or older players. These players have some skating ability and are ready to work on more advanced skills but aren't quite ready for competitive play. This division’s practices will include both instructional time and scrimmage time. New Mighty Mites will receive a helmet and stick to keep.

JUNIOR: Primarily ages 6 to 12. Players must be able to safely skate, use their stick, and understand the basics of the game, they can play in this division (older players may occasionally be placed in this division based on their age and skill level.)

Games-Only Season, Junior Division

● Registration is open to players ages 6 through 12 (our Junior Division) who are interested in playing two roller hockey games per week.

● Games will be overseen by volunteer coaches rather than a formal referee.

● Players who are interested in playing the full eight weeks can register now for $75, which is a savings of nearly 50% compared with our regular season. YOU MUST USE DISCOUNT CODE FALLJR26 to ensure you pay the reduced $75 registration fee. There is no sibling discount for junior division players.

● Players who prefer to participate on a more casual basis may drop in for as few or as many games as they wish for $10 per game.

● Parents of drop-in players will need to sign a paper waiver at the first game their child attends.

● Cash must be paid to one of our coaches before the start of each game (we may also offer an option to pay via PayPal).

IMPORTANT DATES

Pre-Season Informal Evaluation

We will hold a scrimmage on Wednesday, 9/16, for all registered players ages 6 and up who can confidently skate without falling down. This includes those players who have registered for Mites and those  who have registered for our games-only season. The purpose of the scrimmage is to allow our coaches to evaluate each player’s ability to participate in the Junior Division.

Mites and Mighty Mites will both be held on Saturdays at 10 AM.

The first Mites/MM session will be Saturday, 9/19. Helmets and sticks for "new to NRH" players will be distributed at this time.

Junior Division games will be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6 PM

The first Junior Division game will be Saturday, 9/19

● All players are expected to arrive on time, wear full equipment, and behave respectfully and safely, just as they do during regular seasons.

Teams and Game Format

● At this time, our plan is to place each Junior Division player who registers for the full season on a consistent team.

● Coaches will add drop-in players to each of the two teams before the start of each game to round out the rosters.

● All drop-in players will wear pinnies. Full season players may choose to wear an NRH jersey (refundable deposit required) or simply wear a pinnie.

Coaches Needed

We continue to need coaches to help out at all levels. Please let me know ASAP if you’re interested in coaching. To show our appreciation to these hardworking volunteers, we offer free player registration as follows:

● Junior Division coaches may register up to three of their own children for free this season.

● Mites coaches may register one of their children for free this season.

We reserve the right to offer coaches who take on a leadership role in the club additional player registrations at no cost. We may also offer such leaders first dibs on donated and/or surplus player equipment that occasionally becomes available.

A Few Final Notes

Full equipment is still required for both Mites and junior divisions. Ice hockey pants and socks not allowed. Ice hockey shoulder pads are also not allowed. Please use roller hockey specific girdles and padded shirts if you wish for extra protection.

Across all divisions, we expect everyone to arrive on time, be respectful, and play safely.

Whether your child is registered for Mites or for the full junior division season, you are expected to RSVP in the app or online prior to every game and practice. This is not only a matter of courtesy; it enables our hard-working volunteer coaches to plan appropriately and make informed decisions.

This is the first time we are trying this new hybrid version of our fall season, so we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work out the kinks.

If you have any questions, please contact me or Rachel.

Once the season begins, our goal is to have returning coach Tim Zaloum take the lead in running the games and working with players, while Paige Lockburner provides support on the back end, assisting with organization and parent communication.

Ryan Brown will again take the lead on the Mites division, along with returning coach Jason Fardin.

Rachel and I will continue to provide support as much as we are able. Thank you!
